Planer Thicknesser (Portable)

Price range: £24.00 through £95.00 ex. VAT

Planer Thicknessers are used for sizing down timber to precise specifications, whilst also producing a smooth finish. These are often used for joinery work on sites such as bespoke cabinetry, staircases and furniture. They are also ideal for floorboard matching requirements. A must-have tool for any professional carpenters and DIY enthusiasts.

The Makita 2012NB is a Portable Planer Thicknesser that delivers portability and productivity with a compact design, quieter operation, and faster, easier blade changes. The cutter head is turned by a powerful (1650W) but quiet (83db) motor. The 4-post design and diagonal cross support give exceptional stability.

It features Makita’s exclusive Interna-Lok automated head clamp to eliminate snipe for improved planing performance (Some planers have a really annoying habit of digging in deeper at the beginning and/or ends of boards. This phenomenon is called snipe. It can be a very minor dip that only becomes visible when applying finish.)

The Makita 2012NB has a maximum planning width of 304mm (12″) and has the following maximum cutting depths:
3.0 mm when timber width is less than 150 mm
1.5 mm when timber width is from 150 mm to 240 mm
1.0 mm when timber width is from 240 mm to 304 mm
The quality of finish is exceptional considering its fast feed rate of 8.5metres per minute.

One of the key factors in producing a smooth finish are the cutter blades condition. The machine uses 2 reversible cutter blades. At the start of every hire brand new blade edges will have been fitted and a blade wear charge is added to every hire.

During long term hires these blades can become dull and blunt. Dull blades can cause rough finish, an overload of the motor and dangerous kickback of the workpiece. During the hire, any new blades fitted or reversed to a new edge will incur additional blade wear charges.
